SUMMARY

Paraplanners not only provide crucial support to Financial Planners but they help to ensure that the overall Financial Planning process is as smooth and effective as possible for the clients of the firm.

Exclusive to the IFP this two day workshop is based around the job competences of a Paraplanner.  Refreshingly, it moves away from the more traditional technical content.  It provides delegates with a comprehensive understanding of the Financial Planning process and more particularly, skills required to successfully fulfil the role of a Paraplanner within a Financial Planning business and embark on the Certificate in Paraplanning.

This unique workshop is highly interactive with delegates being encouraged to take the opportunity to learn from each other during the various group based activities.  A suitable period has been allowed between each workshop to ensure delegates can put into practice their new found skills under supervision.

DAY ONE: Paraplanning Skills

This will provide Paraplanners with an overview of the Financial Planning process and their role within it.

The day will cover:

  • The Financial Planning process
  • Paraplanning and working with the Financial Planner - who does what?
  • The main elements of the financial plan
  • Analysing the client's situation and available resources
  • Calculating shortfalls
  • Preparing outline recommendations

The day begins with a comprehensive overview and explanation of the six step Financial Planning process that is necessary to follow in every planning situation and the key functions that are performed by the paraplanner.

Step One Identifying financial objectives or problems
Step Two Collecting and assessing all relevant personal and financial data (including attitudinal data)
Step Three Processing and analysing information
Step Four Producing a written plan which describes how to make the most effective use of financial resources to meet the agreed objectives
Step Five Implementing the plan
Step Six Reviewing progress and modifying the plan, as necessary, to take account of changed circumstances.

At the end of the day you will be able to:

  • Understand the role of the Paraplanner and their importance in the Financial Planning process
  • Prepare the main elements of the financial plan
  • Prepare outline recommendations for the financial plan

You are advised to book Day 2 approximately three months after Day 1 to allow you the opportunity to use the knowledge and skills you have acquired back in your workplace.

DAY TWO: Principles of Financial Planning Preparation Day

Day two reinforces the key learning points from the previous day and extends the range of Financial Planning awareness.

The purpose of this day is to build on day one but also to prepare candidates for the examination.

The day will cover:

  • The format of the exam and what happens after the exam
  • A review of the syllabus
  • Technical revision sessions (calculations, net worth statements, income & expenditure analyses etc)

At the end of the day you will be able to:

  • Identify those areas that may require further revision before sitting the exam
  • Understand the exam format and exam technique
