Blog #35 Leading the way - 18/09/2009A full week of IFP strategic meetings with a board meeting and the annual meeting and dinner of the IFP Branch Chairmen. It is great to be working with such committed individuals who are also capable of having great fun. There have been many changes with the Branch Chairmen but the overall quality year on year seems to get better and as the membership numbers grow so I am pleased to say do the average attendances at the branch meetings. The support from the membership has never been stronger as we plan for the exciting years ahead. Regrettably the fitness regime has rather come of the wheels this week although my gym bag has accompanied me everywhere that I have gone. Haven’t even had chance to get the speedos out for a few lengths as meetings and train journey have stretched on. Never mind, the weekend is upon us so surely an opportunity to do something! On Monday night I was invited to my second hen party of the year. I am now getting the hang of these although still stand out a little from the rest. Ten pin bowling was the focus on the early evening and I am pleased to report that I was the clear winner in both games. Competitive Cath was distraught when not so competitive Louise pipped her in both games on the last ball. Good night had by all although strange to see stag night out on a Monday night as well in empty bowling bar playing a game with playing cards stuck on their heads. Perhaps it is just that bowling is cheaper on a Monday! Plenty of activity at home as well with Bec’s 12th birthday and the fitting of the cool brace. There was an apparent need to have 3 birthday cakes so that everybody in the year got to have some. Rhys was off for a team building 3 days with the school. These are things that corporates used to do when they had a budget and Jemma will be off on a Geography field trip on Sunday (at 9am what a ridiculous time) for 3 days which will be boring because none of the fit boys are going. There is also a danger of looking a little geeky with a clipboard. Bec is off on a geography field trip knocking on doors in the village. They are under strict instructions not to go into people’s houses if offered cups of teas etc. Dreadful sign of the times when you have to assume that a paedophile might open any door! On top of all this we have a South African girl staying with us on school exchange. IFP Conference is now on the horizon and we have now over 300 delegates booked in and 500 people in total. There are over 50 top sessions to attend and a tremendous range of both formal and informal presentations. Still time to book or at least to have a proper look at the programme www.ifpconference.org.uk I have won the best employee of the month prize and have won a trip to Steve Gazzard’s house on Sunday so will be hoping that he has been to the best red wine shop to enjoy some excellent hospitality and a slow start to Monday when I shall be looking forward to another working group meeting at the FSA.
